What is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as skin needling or collagen induction therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive, non surgical procedure for facial rejuvenation using a micro-needling device to create controlled micro punctures in the skin. This injury causes the skin to respond by making new collagen-rich tissue for a more even and tone textured skin.
What does the procedure involve?
The area treated is cleaned with a sterile antiseptic wipe then a new sterile manual needle on a disposable holder may be used for deeper wrinkles before the micro-needling device is used to apply a special mono dose gel into the skin depending on your skin type or concern. The single use sterile module for the microneedling device can be increased or decreased in needle depth to treat different skin areas and thickness. Afterwards a highly concentrated soothing mask is applied for 20 mins to help with skin moisturising and to promote the regeneration of skin cells.
Does it hurt?
Everyone's pain threshold is different, some clients have liken it to microdermabrasion or a pinching sensation and many clients get it done without numbing but if you would like to be more comfortable you are more than welcome to apply numbing cream before coming to your your appointment.
What can I expect after the procedure?
After the procedure, your skin will be red and flushed in a similar way to moderate sunburn. You may also experience skin tightness, tingling and mild sensitivity to the touch on the areas treated. This is normal and will diminish greatly after a few hours and the majority of redness will be gone within 3 days.
How do I look after my skin following microneedling?
Following the procedure a special Skin Cocktail gel is provided for aftercare, to be applied to the treated area for the next 4-5 days. Proper aftercare products application is of great importance as these products will nourish the skin during the regeneration process.
You must not expose your skin to direct sun light or apply make, foundation and powders for the next 48 hours. Avoid the sauna, swimming pool and tanning beds and physical exertion or sporting activities that causes excessive sweating for the next 5 days. No Botox or fillers for the next 3 weeks following the procedure.
How many procedures will I need to see results?
A course of 3-6 is recommended for optimal results depending on your skin concerns, which can be repeated every fourteen days apart.
Results can usually be seen after one procedure, sometimes in as little as 24 hours or as long as a few months after as collagen still continues to be produced for the next 3-6 months after the procedure. This is dependant on your skin type, age and how well your skin responses to the treatment.
