What does the procedure involve?
Plasma fibroblast skin tightening is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses a precise micro beam of plasma energy to sublimate the superficial layer of the skin (epidermis), without causing any damage to the underlying or adjacent tissues. The treatment is based on the creation of a series of minute dots on the skin, this process triggers an instant contraction and tightening of skin to create a lifting, remodelling and rejuvenating effect.
The treatment is great for baggy eyelid reduction and can also be used for wrinkle tensioning.
Does it hurt?
Yes, some clients have liken it to the zapping heat of Laser hair removal on thick dark hair. A compounded numbing cream is recommended in order to make it as comfortable as possible, however the treatment is over fairly quickly.
What can I expect after the procedure?
There will be some heat in the skin, like a sunburnt feeling with redness and little carbon crusts in the areas treated. Any burning sensation will usually disappear within a few hours. Swelling may be present depending on the areas treated but that should only last a couple of days, a cold compress can be used for immediate relief or an antihistamine will help if it is particularly uncomfortable.
The carbon crusts will scab and fall off within 5-7 days, leaving fresh pink skin underneath. All side effects should disappear within 7 to 10 days.
How do I look after my skin following Plasma?
The area treated needs to be keep clean and dry. Clients are given an aftercare balm to apply on the area 2-3 times a day when the carbon crusts turn into scabs and start to fall off, this will help make the healing process faster. It's important to not pick or scratch at the carbon crusts as this could lead to scarring, hyper and hypo pigmentation or even infection.
You must not expose your skin to direct sun light or apply make, foundation and powders for the next 48 hours. Avoid the sauna, swimming pool and tanning beds and physical exertion or sporting activities that causes excessive sweating for the next 5 days. The skin should always be protected with high spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+) whilst it is healing and always remember to wear a hat and sunglasses for at least 7 days.
How many procedures will I need to see results?
Full results can be seen at 12 weeks, one treatment is usually enough to see results, however after 1 month, on the check-up appointment, we can determined if additional treatment(s) are necessary, which can be performed in 4 months time once the healing process is finished.
Who isn't a suitable candidate for Plasma?
It is not advisable for those with very dark skin tones as there is a higher risk of pigmentation after treatment, both light (hypopigmentation) and dark (hyperpigmentation), particularly if the carbon crust is scratched away too early.
